JOHN THE BAPTIST said about himself: "I am not" (John 1:20)
JESUS' LOG OF CLAIMS:
- I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE (John 6:35). It was very similar to a title of the Chaldean harvest god, Tammuz, who seems to have been known as "the bread of heaven". Ezekiel had warned the people against mixing worship of Yahweh with worship of Tammuz ( Ezekiel 8:14)
- I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD John 8:12)
- I AM THE DOOR (John 10:7). "The door" was a reference to Janus, the oldest of the Roman gods, the double-faced keeper of doorways and gates after whom the month of January is named. He was originally a rustic pastor deity.
- I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD (John 10:11). "The good shepherd" was a title of Pan, a Greek god of flock and herds as well as the countryside, who inspired sudden fear: thus the word 'panic'.
- I AM THE RESURECTION AND THE LIFE (John 11:25). This was the title of Osidris, one of the chief gods of Egypt.
- I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE (John 14:6) - could refer to Python Apollo of Delphi in Greece or to the Eleusinian Mysteries of Demeter also from Greece.
- I AM THE TRUE VINE (John 15:1). "The true vine" was a title of the Cretan god Dionysius- Zagreus, the wild wine-loving deity who revelled in bothe orgy and destrudtive mutilation.
WHAT JESUS WAS SAYING WAS THESE ARE TITLES OF GOD THAT HAVE BEEN USURPED. CERTAIN DARK SPIRITUAL PRINCES WHO HOLD SWAY OVER VARIOUS TERRITORIES HAVE CLAIMED THESE TITLES AS THEIR OWN.
WHEN THE FULLNESS OF THE TIME CAME, JESUS SAID : I AM THE TRUTH!
