Iubirea vrājmasului

Duminicā 29 Sept. "Iubiti pe vrājmasii vostri!" ( Luca 6:31).

Îmi amintesc că un profesor creștin mi-a spus cu mult timp în urmă: „Urăște păcatul, dar nu pe păcătos”.
Cum ai putea să urāști ceea ce a făcut un om și să nu-l urăști pe el?
Dar ani mai târziu am realizat că există un om căruia i-am făcut asta toată viața - eu însumi!
Oricât de mult aș vrea să nu-mi placă propria mea lașitate, îngâmfare sau lăcomie, am continuat să mă iubesc.
De fapt, motivul pentru care am urât lucrurile acelea a fost că îl iubeam pe omul ăla (eu).
Creștinismul nu vrea să reducem ura pe care o simțim față de cruzime și trădare la cineva.
Dar vrea să urâm în același mod în care urâm lucrurile în noi înșine: regretând că a trebuit să fac astfel de lucruri și sperând, dacă este oricum posibil, cumva, cândva, undeva, să mă vindec și să redevin om. (C.S.Lewis, Simplu creștinism).

I remember a Christian teacher telling me long time ago : 'Hate the sin but not the sinner'.
How could you hate what a man did and not hate the man?
But years later it occurred to me that there is one man to whom I have been doing this all my life - namely myself. However much I might dislike my own cowardice or conceit or greed, I went on loving myself.
In fact the very reason why I hated the things was that I loved the man.
Christianity does not want us to reduce the hatred we feel for cruelty and treachery. But it does want us to hate them in the same way in which we hate things in ourselves : being sorry that the man should have done such things, and hoping, if it is anyway possible, that somehow, sometime, somewhere he can be cured and made human again.
