Iisus i-a dezvăluit acestui fariseu devotat că Împărăția lui Dumnezeu va veni în întreaga lume, nu doar pentru evrei și Nicodim nu va face parte din ea decât dacă va fi născut din nou - un concept revoluționar: împărăția este personală, nu națională sau etnică, iar cerințele de intrare sunt pocăința și renașterea spirituală - prin apă și Duh.
Cei condamnați să moară din cauza mușcăturii de șarpe în deșert puteau fi vindecați prin privirea în sus la șarpele de bronz înălțat de Moise (Numeri 21:8). În mod similar, mântuirea noastră are loc atunci când privim la Iisus, și credem că El ne va salva.
Dumnezeu stabilește modelul iubirii adevărate: să dăruiești gratuit până la sacrificiu de sine.
Dumnezeu a plătit scump, cu viața Fiului Său. Iisus a acceptat pedeapsa noastră și a plătit prețul păcatelor noastre.
Nicodim a fost acolo, pe Golgota, pentru a vedea moartea lui Iisus, a ajutat să fie dat jos trupul de pe cruce și L-a văzut apoi viu .
A night of revelation.
Nicodemus visits Jesus (John 3).
Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the ruling council (Sanhedrin).
A learned teacher himself, he came to Jesus to be taught.
Later, when he understood that Jesus was truly the Messiah, he spoke up boldly in His defense : "Does our law condemn anyone without first hearing him to find out what he is doing?" ( John 7:50).
Jesus revealed to this devot Pharisee that the kingdom of God would come to the whole world, not just the Jews and Nicodemus wouldn't be a part of it unless he was personally born again - a revolutionary concept : the kingdom is personal not national or ethnic, and the entrance requirements are repentance and spiritual rebirth - of water and the Spirit.
The doomed to die from snakebite in the desert could be healed by looking up at the elevated bronze snake (Numbers 21:8). Similarly, our salvation happens when we look up to Jesus, believing He will save us.
God sets the pattern of true love : to give freely to the point of self-sacrifice.
God paid dearly with the life of His Son.
Jesus accepted our punishment and paid the price of our sins.
Nicodemus was there on Golgota to see the death of Jesus, helped to take down His body from the cross and saw Him alive.
