The Watcher from the Tree.
It was a personal encounter with God through His Son Jesus Christ, like Nicodemus at night or Saul on the road to Damascus.
Zacchaeus was a tax collector who lined his pockets with people's hard earned money.
He has heard about Jesus, the wonderful teacher who changed people's lives.
How he wished that he could see Him!
But crowds had already lined the city street and he would get nothing but kicks and sharp elbows.
He glanced up at the fig tree that grew beside the street, and decided what to do.
Then Jesus stopped and called out, "Come down, Zacchaeus!."
"What good is it for a man to gain the whole world", to climb the greasy ladder to the top but to lose his family and his intergrity, his self-respect, and finally his very soul in the process?
For what am I living? What drives my life? What purpose is before me?
The real purpose in life comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
