The 3rd Sunday after Pentecost, The lilies of the field.
Jesus was sitting on the steps of the temple.
People were with Him. He was telling them a story:
Once upon a time there was a certain rich man who had so much wheat he built great barns to keep it in.
He did not give any of his riches away but kept them all for himself.
He had enough stored away so he did not have to work.
He could eat, drink and be merry.
God saw him and said : Tonight you will die. All the wealth you have saved will be of no use to you.
Why do you care for fine food and beautiful clothes?
Think of the birds, they do not plant seeds and gather wheat.
They have no barns full of grain. Yet they eat. God takes care of them.
Are you not better than the birds? Will not God, then, take care of you?
Think of the lilies of the field; they do not work. They toil not, neither do they spin.
Yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautiful as one of these lilies.
Are yoy not better than the lilies of the field? Will not God, then, take care of you.
Believe in God and He will take care of you (Mathew 6:28).
