 10 Aprilie, Duminica Mariei din Egipt (344 - 421)

 

Și-a început viața ca o tânără care a urmat pasiunile trupului.
Într-o zi, însă, ea a întâlnit un grup de tineri care se îndreptau spre mare pentru a naviga spre Ierusalim pentru cinstirea Sfintei Cruci.
Dar când grupul a ajuns la Ierusalim și s-a dus efectiv spre biserică, Mariei i s-a interzis să intre de o forță nevăzută. După trei astfel de încercări, ea a rămas afară, in curtea bisericii, unde și-a ridicat privirea și a văzut o icoană a Maicii Domnului.
Ea a început să plângă și s-a rugat cu toată puterea ca Sf. Fecioară să-i permită să vadă Adevărata Cruce;
Ea a promis că va renunța la dorințele ei lumești și va merge oriunde o va duce Maica Domnului.
După această convertire din inimă la ușile bisericii, ea a fugit în deșert pentru a trăi ca ascetă.

 

Chipul lui Dumnezeu a fost cu adevărat păstrat în tine.
Căci ai luat crucea și L-ai urmat pe Hristos.
Făcând astfel, ne-ați învățat să nesocotim trupul, căci e trecător
Și să avem grijă în schimb de suflet, deoarece este nemuritor.
De aceea duhul tău, Sfântă Maică Maria, se bucură împreună cu Îngerii.

 

 

 

 

10th of April, The Sunday of Mary from Egypt ( 344 - 421)

She began her life as a young woman who followed the passions of the body.
One day, however, she met a group of young men heading toward the sea to sail to Jerusalem for the veneration of the Holy Cross. 
But when the group reached Jerusalem and actually went towards the church, Mary was prohibited from entering by an unseen force. After three such attempts, she remained outside on the church patio, where she looked up and saw an icon of theTheotokos.
She began to weep and prayed with all her might that the Theotokos might allow her to see the True Cross;
She promised that she would renounce her worldly desires and go wherever the Theotokos may lead her.
After this heart-felt conversion at the doors of the church, she fled into the desert to live as anascetic.

 

The image of God was truly preserved in you, O mother,
For you took up the Cross and followed Christ.
By so doing, you taught us to disregard the flesh, for it passes away;
But to care instead for the soul, since it is immortal.
Therefore your spirit, O holy Mother Mary, rejoices with the Angels.
