"Job" is probably the oldest book in the Bible and it is an example of what not to do in a friendship. Job lost his health, his children, and much that he owened. He lost the support of his friends, and his wife was impatient with his tragic circumstances, advising him to "curse God and die" (Job 2:9). Job's multiple sufferings were compounded not just by a lack of sympathy but with overt emotional harassement and condemnation by his three so-called friends.

These pseudo-friends, with their criticism and self-righteousness, failed to look at Job's pain from a different point of view. They reached the easy but wrong conclusion that God must be punishing Job for some unrevealed sin.

If we had to choose a friendship like that between David and Jonathan (Samuel 18:1) or that of Job and his crew, we would all prefer the kindness and commitment that exist between David and Jonathan. But close friendship don't just happen. They result from the application of principles recorded throughout the Word of God - Bible. (David Smith )
