The appearances of Christ. Hallucinations?
1. Hallucinations occur generally in people who tend to be vividly imaginative and of a nervous makeup, but not hardheaded fishermen like Peter and others.
2. Hallucinations are extremely subjective and individual, no two people have the same experience. Christ appeared not just to individuals but to groups, including one with more than 500 people.
3. Hallucinations usually occur only at particular times and places; Jesus appeared both indoors and outdoors, in the morning, afternoon and evening.
4. In order to have an experience like this, one must so intensely want to believe that she or he projects something that isn't really there and attaches reality to this imagination. The disciples were persuaded against their wills that Jesus had risen from the dead!
Mary came to the tomb with spices in her hands, not expecting to find Jesus risen from the dead. When the other diciples heard, they didn't believe.
Jesus appeared to the disciples and, to convinde them, He finally said, "Touch Me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have".
Finally, Thomas the doubter said :"I won't believe unless I can put my finger into the nail wounds".
Jesus graciously invited Thomas to examine the evidence of His hands and His side, and Thomas fell down in worship.
