Jesus' Banquet of the Loaves ( Matthew 14:13)
"All you who are thirsty, come to the water.
You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat;
come, without paying and without cost.." (Isaiah 55).
At a difficult time, when all kinds of bickerings, avarice, and disagreements were breaking out among the people, Isaiah used the imagery of a feast, a banquet of divine joy, for what should characterize God's people. Through good things to eat and drink that are scarce in the Holy Land ( water, corn, wine, milk, bread) Isaiah speaks of satisfying the deepest longings of the human heart: longing for human presence and loving relationship.
