The New Man - the crisis of birth (Matthew 19:16).
This young man, rich, well educated, polite and religious needed a whole new starting point.
- Master, what good advice can You give me regarding eternity?
- Jesus :Tear down your little castle and follow My Mind.
Instead of adding another commandment to keep, or good deed to perform, the young man needed to submit humbly to the lordship of Christ, to change from being creature of God to being son of God, a new life.
It is the crisis of birth. Until we rise and follow Christ we are still parts of Nature. To become new men means losing what we now call 'ourselves'.
His will is to become ours and we are to think His thoughts, 'to have the mind of Christ' (Philippians 2:5).
The more we get what we now call 'ouselves' out of the way, and let Him take us over, the more truly ourselves we become. It is when I turn to Christ and give myself up to His Personality, that I first begin to have a real personality.(C.S.Lewis)
