- Caesar thought he was in charge of the world. He proclaimed the census and all people had to go.
- Herod, when saw that he was mocked by the wise men, slew all the children in Bethleem.
- Scriptures calls Joseph 'just' and the fact that he accepted Mary in her condition and cared for her and coming child, tells much about him. Jesus was 'subject' to Joseph.
- Elisabeth was a much older woman, devout, faithful, married to a priest and kin to Mary.
- Mary said to the angel, "Let God will be done". This young, sensitive, devout girl served God through dreadful shame, humiliation, misunderstanding and a measure of fear and wonder; but she accepted her role.
- Shepherds were simple people, often ridiculed because they were unlearned, people who slept under the stars with their flocks.
- The wise men, described by the Greek word as expert in astrology, interpretation of dreams, and various other arts.
-The religious leaders made no effort to find the Messiah.
