Lazarus is asking for Social Justice (Luke 16:17).
Jesus did not teach a comfortable religion. He wanted to turn our thinking around: He gave a name to the underprivileged and no name to the rich man.
We do not know how he came by his wealth : it could have been by hard work, shrewd investment or inheritance; there is no mention of dishonesty.
There is a good chance he paid his temple fees and visited the synagogue.
He also gave to the poor - Lazarus got what the rich man didn't need.
He was a family man, too. In trouble himself, he asked for something special for those still at home.
Really, he looked fairly good; what Jesus found fault with was his lack of concern for someone in need - what we call social justice. (Fr. Kevin Ryan).
