14th October, St. Paraskeva, "The good seed".
The belief in God is seen today as mere wish fulfillment, or a throwback to our need for a father image, and the Christianity is like something for emotional cripples who can't make it through life without a crutch.
It is claimed that Christian conversion is a psychologically induced experience brought about by brainwashing.
Yes, when we hear about God and Jesus Christ, our emotions can be moved, as St. Paraskeva was in her youth.
Our Lord, in the parable of the Sower, warns against merely stirring the emotions and likens the Christian message to a seed that falls on stony places : received with joy but roots never grow deep inside.
The good news is that Christian truth does not rest on emotional highs.
At times of uncertainty it is helpful to review the facts, and we will find an even deeper faith will result...(Paul Little).
Hymn: "With much effort, the human in the image of God was saved in you.
Pray for us, St. Paraskeva!".
