6 August - A vision of Glory
Peter, James and John witness Jesus transfigurated into a heavenly being, in front of Moses and Elijah.
Jesus has taught that He came from heaven, and this incident showed the disciples what heaven was like. It helped them to believe that He really was the Son of God, as Peter declared a few days earlier. They saw the purity and holiness of heaven as a bright light. "His face shane like the sun, and His garments became white as light" (Matthew 17)
Peter wanted to build shrines, because he wanted to keep the figures on earth. He had to realize that spiritual experiences cannot be preserved.
