The Sunday of Zacchaeus, the Tax Collector (Luke 19).
Moral smoke screens.
Our understanding can be unknowingly hindered by moral smoke screens, overshadowing the intelectual revelation of God.
Jesus said that when a moral commitment is made, it brings understanding to the mind : "If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own" (John 7:7).
Zacchaeus made a moral commitment and 'salvation came to his house".
A student had many questions, and a priest gave him good answers.
- Are you going to follow Christ?
- No, frankly because it would mess up the way I'm living!
He realized the real issue for him was not intelectual but moral (Paul Little).
