The Pharisee did not go to the Temple to pray to God but to announce to all within earshot how good he was. (Luke 18,9)
The tax collector went to the Temple recognizing his sin and begging for mercy. Self-righteousness is dangerous and can lead to pride, may causes a person to despise others, and prevent him from learning anything from God. We all need God’s mercy every day; don’t let pride in your achievements cut you off from God!
“Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord” (Exodus 13.2)
“Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, dismiss now your servant in peace” (Luke 2,29)Simeon’s song is called the “Nunc Dimittis – Dismiss your servant”. According to the tradition, Simeon participated to the translation of the Hebrew Old Testament into Greek, called “Septuagint” in 255 BC.
JESUS SENDS A DEMON OUT OF A GIRL. (Matthew 15,21). A desperate mum was crying out: “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly.”
“Dog” refers to little dogs or house pet, not outdoor scavengers. Jesus was saying that His first priority was to provide food for the children, not to allow pets to interrupt the family meal. The woman did not argue. Using Jesus’ choice of imagery, she pointed out that she was willing to be considered an interruption as long as she could receive God’s healing for her daughter.
ZACCHAEUS (Luke 19)
Tax collectors, Jews by birth but working for Romans, were considered traitors; they were making themselves rich by gouging their fellow Jews.
