JESUS SENDS A DEMON OUT OF A GIRL. (Matthew 15,21). A desperate mum was crying out: “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly.”
“Dog” refers to little dogs or house pet, not outdoor scavengers. Jesus was saying that His first priority was to provide food for the children, not to allow pets to interrupt the family meal. The woman did not argue. Using Jesus’ choice of imagery, she pointed out that she was willing to be considered an interruption as long as she could receive God’s healing for her daughter.
THE CHRONICALLY ILL – it is a most dedicated pursuit; it is very hard indeed on those who have a loved one to look after, day in and day out, almost without respite. Bear it with fortitude, without becoming frustrated or losing patience. A mum looking after her chronically ill daughter is regarded as a work of love, a “God-given ministry”.
If you learn that you or a loved one is suffering a serious illness, do not give up hope. A doctor’s diagnosis can only establish facts as they are at the moment. Remissions are known to have occurred, at times inexplicably and, with the constant advance of technology and science, new drugs, skills and treatments are continually introduced; they may dramatically change a desperate problem into a situation of hope. We carry within us resources of unknown strength which have never been used. ( Dr R. Brasch, A book of comfort,1991)
