Catherine was the daughter of King Constus and lived with her mother in Alexandria in Egypt after her father's death.Catherine was greatly gifted by God, exceptionally well -educated in Greek philosophy, medicine, rhetoric and logic, and added great physical beauty to this. Emperor Maxentius seeing that she surpassed him in wisdom and learning, called 50 of the wisest men, to dispute with her about her Christian faith - but Catherine was wiser than they - the Emperor commanded that all 50 wise men to be burned. Catherine was tortured on the wheel and beheaded with the sword at the age of 18, on November 25th, 310.Her relics are preserved in St. Ekaterina Monastery, in Mt. Sinai
