 BEING IN CONTROL.

ST. APOSTLE PAUL SAID:" DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT THE WICKED WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD?...BUT YOU WERE WASHED, YOU WERE SANCTIFIED, YOU WERE JUSTIFIED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND BY THE SPIRIT OF OUR GOD" (1 Corinthians 6:11).

Using drugs can be done more safely by following the guidelines listed below. These actions, together, will reduce the risks, and so determine your experiences of using:

- Limit how much you take (the amount) and how often you take it (the frequency).

- Avoid mixing drugs together. Only take one type at a time.

- Avoid mixing recreational drugs with prescription drugs or alcohol.

- Avoid drugs that you know you react badly to.

- Don't take any drugs of you are not exactly sure what they are, or whether they've been 'cut' or mixed with something else.

- Always start out slow, by taking a small amount. Don't assume you didn't get enough if you don't feel it right away - wait and see. If you don't get the effects you expect from the smaller amount, don't go to the other extreme and take too much as this may cause a dangerous overdose. It's better to gradually increase, and wait and see.

- Don't overdo it. Stay within your limits and listen to what your body is telling you; and stay open to advice from other if they think you've had enough.

- Mixing any drugs can cause dangerous adverse reactions, and the cumulative effects may be too much for your body to handle.

Garry : "It's really important to measure GHB ( gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) 'cause it's potent, quick and unpredictable. If you must take it, take tiny amounts. It's too fine a line between having a good time and a dead time! It's best avoided. I've been really lucky. Don't take GHB alone, and never go swimming on it as you can fall unconscious and drown".

Dylan : "Don't mix alcohol with GHB, it's dangerous. It's not 'liquid ecstasy', it's liquid excess! I've seen people on GHB and alcohol and it doesn't look like much of a 'fantasy' ride to me!".

- It's important to eat a healthy variety of food every day, drink adequate water, and get enough sleep, even though some drugs will decrease your desire for these things. Find time to regenerate and rejuvenate, and enjoy times that don't involve drugs or alcohol.

IF YOU INJECT DRUGS:

- Use a new sterile needle and syringe every time you inject. Injecting equipment is available FREE from Needle and Syringe Programs (NSPs).

- Don't share any injecting equipment, including needles, syringes, tourniquets, spoons, alcohol swabs. Sharing equipment can lead to HIV, Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B transmission.

- Never clean and re-use another person's fit (needle and syringe), and avoid re-using your own fit (even if they are bleached and rinsed), as this may cause a 'dirty hit' and risk infections.

- Never inject someone or have someone inject you.

- Wash your hands with warm soapy water before and after injecting.

- Always clean the area on your body to inject with a new sterile alcohol swab, by wiping across the area once only - to clean away germs and bacteria that can cause infections. If alcohol swabs are not available, clean the area with warm water and soap, although it will not be as effective against germs and bacteria. After your shot, use a cotton ball or tissues and apply pressure to stop any bleeding.

- Choose a new injection site on your body each time you inject, to avoid collapsed veins, abscesses and infections.

- Dispose of ALL used equipment (including swabs, cotton balls, tissues) in a Sharp Container ('fit pack') and return the container to a Needle and Syringe Program. NEVER recap used needles or break off tips.
