 1.  STEPS AND STOPS.

The Old Testament is relevant and Jesus is its fulfillment.
- The children of Israel had been told to watch the cloud for guidance: "Whenever the cloud lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped" (Numbers 9:17).
- The transfiguration took place on a mountain, which immediately calls to mind Moses' meeting with God and establishing the covenant on Mount Sinai (Exod 24:12).
- Moses (who reprsents the law) and Elijah (who represents the prophets) appeared with Jesus on the mountain - Jesus' work is in agreement with the Old Testament law and prophets.
- The cloud that accompanies God's presence during the scene is like the one that led the Israelites during their wanderings in the desert.
- God's words commanding the disciples to listen to Jesus fulfill a prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15 - God would deliver a prophet who would speak God's words and all are to listen to him.
- "Wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped" and this is why Peter said: "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah" (Luke 9:33).
