GOD'S INVITATION LIST.
Our Lord Jesus uses the image of a banquet to describe the Reign of God. Jesus' point is not about what is on the menu but who is on the invitation list : the weak, the poor, the crippled, the blind and the little ones. The banquet scene is found only in Luke and provides the opportunity for the teachings of Jesus on humility and His attitude toward the rich and the poor. It is a further illustration of the rejection by Israel of Jesus' invitation to share in the banquet of the Reign of God.
