THE GREAT LENT. THIS FASTING TIME PRESCRIBED BY THE ORTHODOX CHURCH STARTS  8 WEEKS BEFORE EASTER:

1. THE DAIRY WEEK  (10TH OF MARCH TO 16TH OF MARCH). PARTIAL VEGETARIANS - WE EAT DAIRY PRODUCTS, EGS AND FISH,  REFUSING MEAT.

2. THE LENT ITSELF OF 6 WEEKS (17TH OF MARCH TO 27TH OF APRIL). WE BECOME VEGANS - STRICT VEGETARIANS,  EATING NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS.

3. THE HOLY WEEK ( 28TH OF APRIL TO 4TH OF MAY). THE FASTING IS MORE INTENSE; IT ACCOMPANIES THE CELEBRATION OF THE PASSION OF CHRIST, OUR SAVIOR.

4. Note: the young children, the elderly / frail and the sick people are exempted from strict fasting.

Our project for the fasting time before the Easter 2013 is " EVERY DAY WITH THE PSALMS", following Mendell Taylor, a day-by-day devotional study of the entire Book of the Psalms. The Hebrew PSALTER numbers 150 songs. In the Greek PSALTER the numbering is usually one digit behind the Hebrew due to psalm 9 divided in A+B (psalm 9+10). Many of the traditional English translations are often a verse number behind the Hebrew because they do not count the super-scriptions as a verse.

If you read Psalms from a Romanian Bible, after the Psalm 9 please add one digit. Example: Psalm 50 in the Romanian Bible is Psalm 51 in the English Bible.

The project "EVERY DAY WITH THE PSALMS" will start on Monday 11/03/13.
