The Great Martyr George was born in Cappadocia; his father suffered for Christ and his mother moved to Palestine. By the age of 20 he went into the army, in which he rose to the rank of tribune. The Emperor Diocletian began a terrible persecution of Christians and George confessed that he was a Christian. In the year 303, on 23rd of April, the Emperor commanded that George and Empress Alexandra be beheaded.
